Bompas & Parr organised a summer competition to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the London Festival of Architecture (LFA). The brief was to explore how fireworks can be used in architecture today and in the future. It was an opportunity to reimagine fireworks. We are delighted to announce that we have won the Sustainable category!
Below are some comments from the judges on our entry:
‘Could this be the daytime fireworks we’ve all been waiting for.’ Harry Parr, Director, Bompas & Parr
‘This is like holi, but less messy’ Peter Murray OBE, Founder, London Festival of Architecture
‘The visuals for fireDAY works really grabbed us. This could be an extraordinary, immersive performance.’ Daryl Fleming and Toby Alloway, Directors, Titanium.
Here is an excerpt from the competition text and panels:
“We generally associate fireworks with the night. FireDAYworks flips this connotation by embracing natural morning light through a sustainable approach.
Eco-friendly spectacle with vibrant colours evoking organic sensations and offering adventure for all. An eco-friendly display with vibrant colours provoking the senses and offering a spectacle for all ages.
After the show, all materials, from organic pigments, biodegradable balloons and soil, are repurposed and recycled – leaving no trace but memories.
A magical experience with an environmentally fire-endly and impactful extravaganza.”
